Where Boys can be Boys

Not many of you will know of The Book Club in Cairns FNQ because it's not really a book club at all. It's a group of men & women (mostly men) who gather for a drink together at a different nominated pub every Thursday between 4.30 & 6.30. Our president , Cliff Bailey txt's all of the members on Thursdays and of the 50 odd men and women members between 10 & 15 show up.

Unfortunately most of its members are of New Zealand origin but they are bound together by the bond of a sport, namely Rugby Union however that does not define the Club. It can be anything or a mixture of everything, darts, tiddlywinks, croquet or boules, or nothing at all.

It's not a "piss up", it's a group of blokes who care about and help each other, jobs, illness , anything for someone who needs a hand, nothing is out of bounds. Humour is rife.

My daughter Gina, who is a psychologist, tells me that men need the companionship of other men. I didn't ask her about women. Just look in the coffee shops about and the answer will be bleedin' obvious.

Cliffy (el presidente), would like to spread this movement and create other "chapters" in different parts of Australia. I'ts not hard to do, just get a few blokes and show up. The word will spread quickly. if one finds oneself in another town, just show up, it's that easy. Not dissimilar to the men's shed in many ways. Go on tour.

it's a good idea. If anyone wants to know anything or start a "chapter" just email me on garrick@garrickfay.com and get started.

Cheers,
Garrick Fay
